Biography
HOLDEN – Elizabeth J. (Sipsey) Coughlan, 66, of Highland St., died peacefully at her home on Friday, August 9, 2013. Born in Lawrence, Liz was the daughter of William J. and Dorothy I. (McNulty) Sipsey and lived 37 years in Holden.
Liz graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lawrence. She received a B.A. in education from Salem State University and taught in the Worcester Public School system. Liz left education and attained her Master’s Degree in counseling from Assumption College. She worked for many years as Chief Administrator of the Leominster Detox. Liz again returned to school at Wachusett Community College and became an R.N., ending her professional life caring for elderly residents at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester. She will be remembered for her kind and compassionate nature by the thousands she touched on her spiritual journey.
Liz was predeceased by her husband, Alexander J. Radzik in 1997 and a brother, Michael L. Sipsey in 2010. She leaves her son, Andrew Coughlan of Worcester; Andrew's father, Dick Coughlan of Hyannis; a stepdaughter, Susan Radzik of Worcester; a brother, William M. Sipsey of Lincoln, Vermont; nephews and nieces and her beloved shih tzu, Shadow.
A Memorial Mass for Liz will be celebrated on Saturday, August 17, at 10:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester followed by a time of informal fellowship in the church function room. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Worcester County Catholic Charities, 10 Hammond St., Worcester, MA 01610 or online at
