Elizabeth Sutherland Cape

October 3, 1919 — April 26, 2018

PAXTON/HOLDEN - Elizabeth Sutherland Cape, 98, a resident of Paxton for over 50 years, died peacefully on the morning of Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.  She was born in Worcester, the daughter of William M. Cape Sr. and Mary S. (Campbell) Cape.Elizabeth was a firm believer in the value of hard work, love of God and the importance of family.  She graduated from South High School in Worcester with the class of 1939.  Elizabeth, who would sometimes joke that the “S” in her name stood for "Stubborn" rather than Sutherland, began her clerical career at Morgan Construction Co. in 1941.  She worked in several companies before her retirement from New England Electric Co. in 1994.  Elizabeth was a long time member of the Park Congregational Church in Worcester, where she leaves many dear friends.  She was a life member and Past Matron of Stella Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Worcester, Past Royal Matron of the Order of Amarath in Concord, Past Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and Past Chief Daughter in Daughters of Scotia, Thistle Lodge 2 in Worcester.  She had also been a member of the Friends of Paxton Seniors before moving to Holden several years ago.Elizabeth is survived by her loving niece, Rosemarie Stowell and her husband, Warren of Holden; many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brothers, Adam, Robert and William Cape, as well as her sisters, Marion Bragg, Mary, Agnes and Helen Cape.Elizabeth’s family would like to thank the staff of Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center for their care and compassion.
