HOLDEN – Elizabeth A. (Allen) Deese, 80, of 164 Nola Drive, died Friday, August 3, 2007.
She leaves her sons, David A. Deese and his wife Patricia of Belmont and Timothy M. Deese of Rochester, NH; her daughter, Susan E. Deese of Durham, NH; seven grandchildren, Heather, Brian, Jacob, Elizabeth, and Adam Deese, Zachary and Spencer Deese-Laurent; and a great-grandson, Quinn Allen Riordan. She was born in Melrose, daughter of Albert B. and Alvina (Diffenbach) Allen, and lived in Wakefield before moving to Holden 43 years ago. She was a graduate of Melrose High School and Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley.
Elizabeth's creativity and intellectual curiosity never waned. From her degree in English to her life long love of literature and classroom discussions, to her co-ownership of a bookstore and great love of the game of bridge, she was a model reader and learner for all who knew her. Whether within the pages of great literature or the canvasses of the masters, through travels across the world, or from her own talent for writing, editing, and painting, Elizabeth has passed on to us a deep respect for all expression of human creativity.
Such a love of the ocean was hers, and sailing kept that deep connection. This too she has given her children and grandchildren who will always remember her through the sea and its coastlines. Her bonds to her grandchildren, children, and friends were strong and abiding. She was always there to share her joy for their events and accomplishments. All who knew her well enjoyed her sense of humor and love of a good prank. We will miss you Mom.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours for Elizabeth from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 10th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 11th, in the back yard of her home at 164 Nola Drive, Holden. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Massachusetts, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451.
