Biography

RUTLAND - Elissa "Lee" (Oliver) Mahan, 86, died peacefully on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.  She was born in Leominster, the daughter of James and Roberta (Baldo) Oliver and had lived in Rutland for over 65 years.
Lee graduated from Leominster High School.  From a young age she had a passion and love for horses and it was at a riding stable that she met the love of her life, the late Theodore "Ted" J. Mahan.  The couple married in 1951, and settled at their beloved "My-Lee" farm in Rutland.  Lee enjoyed many years as a horse trainer and competitive rider in the Park Morgan Division, winning many awards throughout New England.  She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Rutland and had managed the cafeteria at Naquag Elementary School for 25 years.  Lee loved the peace and tranquility of the family farm and was especially proud passing her love and knowledge of horses to her children and grandchildren.
Lee was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Theodore J. Mahan in 2013.  She is survived by her son, Theodore "Teddy" Mahan of Rutland; her brother, James Oliver and his wife, Peggy of Florida; and her grandchildren, Liam and Lindsey Mahan.
The Mahan family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Rutland EMS as well as the staff at the Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center for their exceptional care.
