Joseph E. Lipka

HOLDEN/CLINTON – Joseph E. Lipka, 86, of Worcester and formerly of Holden and Clinton, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in The Hermitage/Golden Living Center, Worcester.

His wife of 48 years, Irene P. (Smiech) Lipka, died in 1996. He is survived by three sons, Dennis J. Lipka of Holden, Kenneth E. Lipka and his wife Theresa of Holden and Christopher J. Lipka and his wife Debra of Worcester; four brothers, Edward Lipka of Berlin, Donald and Henry Lipka both of Clinton and Walter Lipka of Bridgeport, Connecticut; three sisters, Helen Sesia of Lancaster, Charlotte Wilson of Sterling and Theresa Lablanc of Fitchburg; he was predeceased by brothers Chester, Stanley, Vincent and William. Joseph has four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lipka was born and raised in Clinton, a son of Stanley and Antoinette (Krawczyk) Lipka, and was a graduate of Clinton High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with Co. E, 315th Infantry Regiment in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre. He was a decorated serviceman and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, a Bronze Star, a Distinguished Unit Badge, and a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat.

He worked at Colonial Press in Clinton for 35 years, completing his career at Courier Westford retiring in 1988. He was a member of the VFW Post 6907 in West Boylston, the Disabled American Vets and St. George's Church.

The Lipka family wishes to thank the staff at Golden Living for their kind and compassionate care of Joseph.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 12th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral will be held on Monday, December 13th, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George's Church, Memorial Fund, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
