PRINCETON – Elinor G. (Bates) Hubbard, 98, of Redemption Rock Trail, died Friday, July 13, 2007, in Sterling Healthcare Center, Sterling, after an illness.
Her husband of 68 years, Charles H. Hubbard, died in 1998. She leaves three daughters, Shirley E. Abbott and her husband Frederick of Rutland, Joan E. Anderson of Southboro, and Betty A. Gonzales and her husband John Perkins of Freehold, NJ; eight grandchildren, Gayle, Wesley, Marlene, Robin, Wendy, Wayne, Rick and Ellen; eighteen great grandchildren, Emily, Gabriel, Adam, Ian, Ashley, William, Erin, Matthew, Christina, Lauren, Michelle, Charles, Danielle, Mary, Jonathan, Clara Robert and Victoria; several nephews and nieces. A brother, Stanley Bates and a sister, Virginia Lystila predeceased her.
She was born in Leominster, the daughter of Julius and Maude (Rugg) Bates, and lived in Princeton for 69 years. She graduated from Bridgewater State College and worked as a substitute schoolteacher in Princeton. Along with her husband, she owned and operated Hubbard’s Garage in Princeton. Mrs. Hubbard was a long time member and Deaconess of the First Congregational Church in Princeton and was active with the Girl Scout Troop. She was a member of the Princeton Grange, Walking Club and the Program Director for the Princeton Senior Citizens. She loved to swim and was a great bridge player. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 9-10 a.m. on Monday, July 16th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. The funeral service for Mrs. Hubbard will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, in the First Congregational Church of Princeton, 14 Mountain Road, Princeton. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Princeton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, 14 Mountain Road, Princeton, MA 01541.
