Eleanore Lou Buck Morton

RUTLAND - Eleanore Lou Buck Morton, 84, of Rutland, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. She was born in Willimantic, CT, the daughter of George E. and Minnie (Oaks) Buck.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Thomas J. Morton; two sisters, Prudence Oaks Buck of Rutland and Dorothy K. LaRue of Pittsburgh PA; her daughters, Elizabeth A. Morton and Martha Stranieri and her husband, John, all of Rutland; a son, Jeffrey O. Morton of Rutland; her grandchildren, Alyssa Morton, Sonya Dumas, Callie and Ethan Stranieri and Stephanie Morton; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Nancy Williams, Judith Johnson and Edwin Buck and a grandson, Jeffrey Morton, Jr.
Eleanore loved to spend time with family and friends. She owned and operated The Gathering Shed and was always happiest in her 5 ½ acre garden where she grew flowers and vegetables from seed and in her drying shed where she specialized in dried flower arrangements, or baking in her kitchen. She always had the "door open" and the coffee pot on.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, Feb. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral service celebrating Eleanore’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the First Congregational Church, 264 Main St., Rutland. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Rutland, in the spring. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to The First Congregational Church of Rutland, P.O. Box 484, Rutland, MA 01543.
