SOUTH YARMOUTH/HOLDEN – Eleanor M. (Wright) Lemire, 89, passed away peacefully, Friday, May 17th in the loving care of her family and the caring staff at UMass Medical Center – University Campus. Born in Shrewsbury and raised in Worcester, Eleanor was the daughter of the late James F. and Freda (Lundell) Wright and lived 31 years in Holden before moving to South Yarmouth in 1987. Her beloved husband of 53 years, George R. Lemire passed away in 2002.
Eleanor will be affectionately remembered and missed by her two sons, Ronald F. Lemire and his wife, Marguerite of Boylston and the Honorable James R. Lemire and his wife, Mary of Paxton; five grandchildren, Jim and his wife, Linda, Jeff, Carl and his girlfriend, Shannah, Michael and his wife, Brienne and Robert and his wife, Lindsay; and five great grandchildren, Emma, Jack, Thomas, Charles and James.
She was a graduate of St. Peter Marian High School in Worcester, class of 1947. She worked as a secretary at State Mutual Assurance Company in Worcester. She was formerly an active member of St. George Church in Worcester, its Women’s Club and volunteered her time with the CYC. After retiring on the Cape with her husband, Eleanor joined the Yarmouth Swim Club and the Yarmouth Senior Center.
Eleanor’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff in the Emergency Department and ICU at UMass Medical Center for their care and compassion while caring for her.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Eleanor’s family from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, May 22, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a procession to St. George Church, 40 Brattle St., Worcester, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Eleanor will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester County Food Bank, 474 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
