HOLDEN/WORCESTER - Eleanor V. (Hughes) Nawn, 85, of the Willows of Worcester and formerly of Holden, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, under the loving care of her family and the compassionate staff at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester after a long battle with dementia. She was the beloved wife for 64 years of James W. Nawn; loving mother of Mary Ellen Leslie and her husband, Doug of Worcester, Sally Hartmann and her husband, Peter of Sandwich, Julie Boyle and her husband, Jay of Rockport and Ann Marie Bango and her husband, Jim of North Haven, CT, Maureen Doyle and her husband, R.J. of Narragansett, RI and James W. Nawn, Jr. of Princeton, NJ. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Ann Figge Nawn. She also leaves her brother, James Hughes and his wife, Nancee of Swampscott; two sisters, Mary Noonan of S. Windsor, CT and Ann Restivo and her husband, Vin of Burlington; 21 adoring grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren - including four sets of twins. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Eleanor was born in Brockton, the daughter of the late Geneva (Reed) and James Hughes. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lynn, received her degree in Home Economics from Regis College in Weston, and lived in Swampscott prior to her marriage. A devout Roman Catholic, Eleanor was a member of her beloved church, St. Mary's Church in Jefferson where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and an Associate with The Sisters of Mercy in Worcester. She was proud to be a stay-at-home mother raising her five daughters and son. She was a member of Worcester Country Club and enjoyed playing golf in their ladies league. She was an enthusiastic fan of N.E. sports, especially the Patriots and Red Sox. Eleanor enjoyed her many years at her home at New Seabury on Cape Cod. Her care and love will be missed by all. The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the staff on the Harmony Unit at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center for their care and compassion during Eleanor's stay. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Eleanor's family from 9 to 10:30 am on Saturday, February 17, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, followed by a procession to St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am.
