Eleanor M. Germain

STERLING – Eleanor M. (Roy) Popham Germain, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston. Born and raised in Worcester, she was the daughter of Alfred F. and Mildred M. (Hendrickson) Roy.

She was a 1949 graduate of Commerce High School and went on to enjoy a long career in the accounting department of Astra Pharmaceuticals and several other local businesses. Eleanor was a faithful member of the First Church in Sterling where she sang in the choir and made many lifelong friends. She was a former treasurer of the West Sterling Community Club and enjoyed playing piano and gardening in her spare time. She loved camping with Herbert and their family, making their way across the country and vacationing each summer on Cape Cod. Later in life, Eleanor continued to travel with Tom throughout the New England states.

She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her two sons, Mark W. Popham and his wife, Brenda of Orange and Gary C. Popham and his wife, Murielle of Gardner ; and her five grandchildren, Andrew Popham, Sarah Popham and her fiancé, Joseph Hynes, Emily Shpak and her husband, Andrew, Jennifer Gleason and her husband, Jarrod and Tammi Popham and her fiancé, Jonathan Macomber. In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her first husband, Herbert C. Popham in 1989 and by her second husband, Thomas P. Germain in 2012.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Eleanor’s family from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30 at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 am at the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meetinghouse Hill Road, Sterling. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Sterling.
