Eleanor I. (Herman) Cohen

December 5, 1925 — February 3, 2022

WORCESTER - Eleanor I. (Herman) Cohen, age 96 of Worcester, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 3, 2022 at the Jewish Healthcare Center of Worcester. She was born December 5, 1925 to Dorothy (Fine) and Jesse Herman. She is survived by her children, Nancy F. Cohen, Terry E. Hamilton and husband Thomas, David V. Cohen and his wife Janice and Karen R. Cohen and her husband Danny Haughey. Eleanor is predeceased by her husband Joseph, son in law Eliot Cohen, and her brothers Morton Herman, married to Hinda, and Sumner Herman, married to Lois. She was married to Joseph Cohen for 64 loving years before he passed in 2010. She leaves 5 adoring grandchildren Elissa Cohen, Jared Cohen, Jaclyn Cohen, Julian Hamilton, and Sage Hamilton. She was also blessed to have 6 great grandchildren, Kassidy, Emma and Allie Robertson, Jordan and Sadie Ingle and Ayla Cohen.

Eleanor graduated from Classical High School, then went on to Beth Israel Nursing School to become an RN and finally Assumption College to get her Bachelor’s Degree. After fulfilling her educational pursuits, she became a teaching nurse at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester. She was an avid antique enthusiast who eventually began a business, Inez’s Antiques, that was active for over 30 years, with a shop at the Antique Center of Cape Cod and various other locations.

Eleanor spent her summers on Cape Cod, enjoying time with her family and supper club friends, and creating a lifetime of memories. Eleanor also loved time with friends playing bridge, mahjongg and canasta. She had a dry sense of humor that kept everyone laughing. Eleanor and Joseph loved their annual worldwide trips with Eleanor’s brother and sister-in-law, Sumner and Lois Herman, from Egypt to the Amazon and beyond.

Due to an abundance of caution with Covid and young grandchildren, Eleanor’s family will be having a private funeral. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Beth Israel Synagogue or Jewish Healthcare Center, both of Worcester.
