STERLING – Gertrude (Burns) Lacey, 99, of 4 Calvins Lane, formerly of Cataumet Avenue in Worcester, died on Friday, March 9, 2007 in Sterling Healthcare Center after an illness.
Her husband, William J. Lacey, died in 1973. She leaves numerous nephews and nieces including William E. Burns of West Boylston, Barbara A. Roberti and Maureen C. Bouvier both of Sterling; several cousins including Kathleen Wakeen of Hampton Beach; and numerous great nephews and nieces. Two sisters, Evelyn M. Burns and Mildred Henry, and a brother, William L. Burns, predeceased her. She was born in Princeton, the daughter of William E. and Bridget (McGowan) Burns, and lived many years in Worcester and several in Sterling.
Mrs. Lacey graduated from North High School and a Worcester business college. She was an administrative assistant at the Social Security Administration office in Worcester for over 20 years. Previously, she worked for the Boston and Albany Railroad. She was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church. She was a long time volunteer with many local organizations including the Easter Seals Society and Mechanics Hall.
The funeral for Mrs. Lacey will be held on Tuesday, March 13, from the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 122A), Sterling, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 12, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UMass Memorial Hospice, 650 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA 01605; or the activities fund at the Sterling Healthcare Center, 18 Dana Hill Road, Sterling, MA 01564.
