HOLDEN – Laura Eileen (MacNevin) MacLeod, of Alpha Road, Holden, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, and rejoined her husband, Robert and son, Bobby MacLeod in Heaven with the same resolutely positive outlook that guided her in life on this earth.
Eileen was born on October 30, 1928 in Worcester, the daughter of John A. and Marion C. (Clark) MacNevin. She graduated from Commerce High School, class of 1948, and remained active with her class planning and holding reunions regularly over the last 62 years. She married Robert Pridham MacLeod on July 22, 1950. They built a 42-year marriage based on love and mutual respect and raised two children: Bobby, who made countless friends in his much-too-short life, and Joyce (MacLeod) Durning, wife of Jim of Worcester, who cared for her Mom with boundless love and compassion. Eileen also loved and happily doted on her two grandsons: Robert John and Daniel James Durning, in whom she took immense pride and to whom she imparted her joyous approach to life and her love of all God’s creatures. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, including an especially close niece, Donna Moran of New York City and hundreds of relatives and friends across the U.S. and Prince Edward Island, Canada.
She remembered fondly her years working for “Mr. Krock” at Commence Bank & Trust, as well as the many friends she made managing the housekeeping team at the Sheraton Lincoln Inn. Years ago she was a kindergarten teacher at Chaffin Congregational Church. A talented craftswoman, she taught arts and crafts in the Worcester Public School System for many years, and was known as the “craft lady”. She was an active member of Chaffin Congregational Church, its Mary Martha Circle, led the Board of World Service and founded the Senior Craft Center. She worked the election poll at Mountview Middle School in Holden.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 15th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Eileen will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 16th, in Chaffin Congregational Church, 155 Shrewsbury Street, Holden. Burial is private in Rural Cemetery, 180 Grove Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chaffin Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 155 Shrewsbury Street, Holden, MA 01520.
