Eileen B. (Ottoson) Mclain

HOLDEN/BRISTOL,RI - Eileen B. (Ottoson) McLain, 99, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Silver Creek Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Bristol, RI. She was born in Holden, the daughter of Carl A. and Anna S. (Carling) Ottoson and lived in Holden for many years before moving to Bristol, RI 17 years ago.
She was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 59 years, Glenn T. McLain in 2000. Eileen will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Glenn T. McLain Jr. of Cape Canaveral, FL and James R. McLain of Tuscon, AZ; her daughter, Anne Marie Vittoria and her husband, Michael of Bristol, RI; her beloved grandchildren, Richard McLain and his wife, Brandy, Andrew Vittoria and his wife, Erin, MaryAnne Menton and her husband, Gregory, Matthew Vittoria and his wife, Christina and Robert Vittoria; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Jack and Avery McLain, Alexandria Vittoria, Sarah, Michael and Elizabeth Menton and Adeline Vittoria. Eileen was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Erin McLain M.D. in 2009, her sister, Frances (Ottoson) Carbone in 1988 and her daughter-in-law, Mary McLain in 2015.
Eileen graduated from Holden High School and went on to help operate McLain greenhouses in Holden retiring in 1980. She was an active and supportive member of Chaffin Congregational Church in Holden, where she leaves many dear friends. After retirement, Eileen and her late husband, Glenn enjoyed travelling all over the lower 48 states and much of Canada together. She had a true gift for and love of knitting and even after losing the ability to see, Eileen was able to knit 3800 hats for newborn babies in Providence, RI and Pine Top, AZ. Above all she cherished her grandchildren and being a source of love and support for them.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service honoring and celebrating Eileen's life at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Chaffin Congregational Church, Memorial Fund, 155 Shrewsbury St., Holden, MA 01520.
