STERLING – Alice E. (Needham) Hasselmann, 87, of 365 Redemption Rock Trail, passed peacefully on Saturday, June 23, 2007, surrounded by her loving family, in UMass Health Alliance Leominster Hospital, after an illness. She is reunited with her husband of 39 years, Edward C. Hasselmann, who passed in 1989.
She leaves two sons, Edward C. Hasselmann, Jr. of Walpole, New Hampshire, and Stanley F. Hasselmann of Worcester; four daughters, Nellie L. Magaw of West Boylston, Betty H. Needham of Sterling, Linda S. Hasselmann of Holden and Janet I. Wilson of Bomoseen, VT; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A granddaughter, Catherine Cape, a brother, George F. Needham, and a sister, Helen Bardwell, predeceased her. She was born in Buckland, daughter of George F. and Clara L. (Starkey) Needham, and had lived in Sterling since 1951.
Mrs. Hasselmann was a Avon Sales Representative for 45 years She was a member of the First Church in Sterling where she was a Deaconess and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the West Sterling Club, West Sterling Community Club and a member and past president of the Hiram O. Taylor Post 189 American Legion Auxiliary.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. The funeral service for Mrs. Hasselmann will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27th, in the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meeting House Hill Road. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Sterling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of Sterling, Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 40, Sterling, MA 01564; or the Town of Sterling Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564.
