WORCESTER – Marie E. (Ekberg) Giard, 81, of 61 Brigham Road, died on Saturday, January 13, 2007, in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home after an illness.
Her husband of 54 years, William L. Giard, died in 2000. She leaves three daughters, Christine M. Santom and her husband Michael of Princeton, Jill A. Talevi and her husband Fred of Oakham and Jean E. Joel of Barre; two brothers, Richard Ekberg of Worcester and Raymond Ekberg of Millbury; three sisters, Shirley Green of Randolph, Vermont, Beverly Yacuzzi of Worcester and Carol Demarais of West Springfield, New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Fred Talevi, Andrew, Rachel and Peter Santom; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Nathan Santom; nieces and nephews. Her brother, William Ekberg, and her sister, Rita Nystrom, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester the daughter of Anton and Corine V. (Dube) Ekberg and lived here all her life.
Mrs. Giard was a member of Christ the King Church and enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading.
The funeral for Mrs. Giard will be held on Wednesday, January 17, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
