HOLDEN/BALDWINVILLE – Edith E. (Fletcher) Tourtellot, 97, of Flagler Drive, Holden, died at home on Thursday, May 14, 2009.
Her husband of 52 years, Warren E. Tourtellot, Sr., died in 1987. She is survived by two sons, Warren E. Tourtellot, Jr. and his wife Jane of Lakewood, PA and Scott E. Tourtellot and his wife Sue of Oakham; two daughters, Joan E. Smith of Holden and Sandra E. Michniewicz and her husband David of York, ME; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Her infant daughter, Jean E. Tourtellot, died in 1939. Two brothers, Leland C. and Louis H. Fletcher, two sisters, Barbara and Ruth Fletcher and a great-grandson, Luke Y. Gilmore, predeceased her. She was born in Baldwinville the daughter of Carleton A. and Hattie B. (Leland) Fletcher and lived in Baldwinville for 60 years, and the last 15 years in Holden.
Edith graduated from Templeton High School and Keene Normal School in Keene, NH. She was a longtime school teacher in the Phillipston and Narragansett Regional School Systems. She was a member of the Chaffin Congregational Church and a former member and choir director at the Memorial Congregational Church in Baldwinville. She loved reading, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Edith at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 22nd, in the Chaffin Congregational Church, Holden. Burial will be private in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chaffin Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 155 Shrewsbury Street, Holden, MA 01520. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
