STERLING – Vera E. (Findell) Downey, 83 of Kitchener Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in the Life Care Center of Leominster.
She is survived by her son, Douglas F. Downey and his wife Debra of Sterling; a sister, Frances R. Gadde of Holden; three grandchildren, Matthew, Peter and Jacob Downey; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Grace E. Hester, predeceased her.
Vera was born and raised in Auburn, a daughter of Frank E. and Lydia E. (Anderson) Findell, and lived several years in Ashburnham and 35 years in Sterling. She was a 1944 graduate of Auburn High School and worked several years at Reed & Prince Manufacturing in Worcester. She was a long time member of the Christ Lutheran Church and its Adam's Rib group. Formerly she was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Auburn where she was superintendant of their Sunday School. Vera was very proud of her Swedish heritage and was a member of Lodge Nordic No. 611, VASA Order of America in Worcester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 8th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 9th, in the Christ Lutheran Church, West Boylston. Burial will be in All Faith's Cemetery, Worcester.
