HOLDEN – Edwin F. “Fuzzy” Forsberg, 88, of Holden, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Friday, December 26, 2014. Born in Worcester, Fuzzy was the son of Edwin F. and Helen (Nelson) Forsberg and lived most of his life in Holden.
Fuzzy graduated from Holden High School in 1945. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and proudly served his country as a corporal in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre from 1945 to 1946 with the 435th Bomber Squadron/333rd Bomber Group. In 1952, Fuzzy married the love of his life, Beverly Stanhope of Worcester and together raised their three children. He later graduated from Worcester Junior College in Worcester and worked at Norton Company, Northeast Airlines and 28 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Holden as a mail carrier retiring in 1983.
He was an active member of the Oakdale United Methodist Church and served as the treasurer, a trustee and usher. He passionately enjoyed carpentry and built several homes throughout the years including his family’s three homes. Fuzzy will be affectionately remembered for his quick wit and kindhearted nature. At his request and last act of kindness, he donated his body to UMass Medical School in Worcester for medical science.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Beverly (Stanhope) Forsberg; two daughters, Denise M. Forsberg-DiMarzio and her husband David of Wakefield, Rhode Island and Holden, Massachusetts, and Nancy B. Forsberg and her partner Denise Graziani of Simsbury, Connecticut; two brothers, Douglas Forsberg of New Hampshire and Dana Forsberg of California; a sister, Dianne Erickson of West Boylston; five grandchildren, Michael and Melissa DiMarzio, Simone and Dagnall Forsberg, and Odin Woodward-Wen; his former daughter-in-law, Wanda Wen of California; and many beloved nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his son, Grant E. Forsberg, a sister, Viola Oliver and his step-mother Ruth (Davis) Forsberg.
A memorial service honoring Fuzzy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, at Oakdale United Methodist Church, 15 North Main Street, West Boylston. Immediately following the service, relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family in the church hall for a light lunch. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Fuzzy’s name to Quilts of Valor Foundation, 6 Ryan Road, West Townsend, MA 01474.
