WORCESTER/HOLDEN – Paul Edward DeSalvo, 81, of 42 Briarwood Circle died at home on Sunday, May 23, 2010. He was the husband of Earline (Stevenson) DeSalvo. His previous wife, Frances J. DeSalvo died in 2000.
Mr. DeSalvo was the son of Paul S. and Regina (Hautzinger) DeSalvo and was born in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1930 where he graduated from the University of Toledo in 1955 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. After returning from the service he worked for Ohio Bell in Columbus, Ohio. He moved to Worcester in 1964, lived 35 years in Holden, and worked at Herbert Engineering in Worcester, which is now Goodman Associates in Shrewsbury, retiring in 1994 as Vice President of Engineering. He stayed on until 2010 as a consultant. He also consulted for Sunshine Sign Company, Inc. and VW Builders, Inc.
He leaves two daughters, Lisa A. DeSalvo of Worcester and Lora B. DeSalvo of Jamaica Plain; three stepsons, Wayne A. Griffin and his wife Sharon, Bruce A. Griffin and his wife Linda, all of Worcester and Alan B. Rich, Sr. and his wife Kimberly of Hampton, Virginia; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and three great-grandsons; several cousins; and a sister-in-law, Dr. Barbara DeSalvo of Cincinnati, Ohio. His brother, Robert DeSalvo predeceased him.
Mr. DeSalvo was a volunteer at the Holden Senior Center Meals on Wheels program since 2001 and was a member of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Society of Professional Engineers, Worcester Art Museum, the Sudbury Opera Group, the National Model Railroad Association, the Massachusetts Archaeological Society and was the Publicity Chairman for the Central Massachusetts Chapter for many years. He enjoyed many years in the W.I.S.E. Program. He was a supporter of the Foothills Theater, Hanover Theater and the Worcester Historical Society, all of Worcester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May25th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26th, at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the St. Mary's Church, P.O. Box 2200, Jefferson 01522.
