Edward 'Bob' R. Regan

PITTSFIELD – Edward “Bob” R. Regan, 76, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully in the loving presence of his family on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Beverly, Ed was the son of Edward and Esther T. (Lee) Regan and lived many years in Hamilton before moving to Pittsfield.



Ed graduated from Norwich University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and also obtained his Master’s Degree in Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He later went on to receive a Master’s in Business Administration from Northeastern University. He worked for United Shoe Machine in Beverly for 10 years, and later for General Electric, for over 20 years retiring in 1998 from General Dynamics. He spent most of his career as a managing project engineer and was inducted into GE’s Elfun Society, which was a senior management organization and “think tank.” Ed was a member of both Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and Alpha Phi Mu Industrial Engineering Honor Society. He received numerous awards and recognitions for his engineering abilities including from the government for his work on the Bradley Tank.



While a graduate student at WPI, Ed met the love of his life Mary “Nancy” Flynn who was attending Anna Maria College in Paxton. They were married on August 24, 1963 and lived in Hamilton where Ed served several years on the local school committee. They later moved to Pittsfield in 1978 where they raised their three daughters. He cherished time spent with his family and particularly enjoyed summer vacations at their home in Wells, Maine. Ed was his happiest puttering around his home and participating in any activity that would bring him closer to his family. He is remembered by his daughters as a “gentle giant", who affectionately and unconditionally shared his love with them and their mother. He was a clever man and thought long and hard before giving counsel or advice. Ed will also be remembered for his patience, understanding, wisdom and his charming dry sense of humor.



He leaves his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary C. (Flynn) Regan; three daughters, Jennifer L. Griffith and her husband, Brian of Worcester, Patricia A. Chuplis and her husband, Joseph of Rutland and Karen E. Flynn and her husband, Brian of Attleboro; five grandchildren, Joshua, Regan, Colin, Dylan and Owen; three nieces including Colleen Wolfe of Charlton, Eileen Ledbetter of Woodbridge, Virginia and Deborah Rooney of Pepperell; 7 grand and 7 great-grand nieces and nephews, as well as a brother, Richard F. Regan of Hamilton.



Relatives and friends may visit with Ed’s family from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 24, at Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester.
