Ed enlisted in the Navy after graduation, serving in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he attended UMass Amherst and was editor of the university newspaper. Upon graduation, he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. He joined Deluxe Parlor Furniture, the family business, in 1952, and became President in 1954. He was honored three times as volunteer of the year for his work with the Worcester Ecotarium.
Ed pursued his love for learning through post-graduate courses at Clark University in geology, astronomy, and history, and he conducted research at the Worcester Antiquarian Society. He was an accomplished musician, pilot and writer. He could fix anything. He was an avid naturalist, photographer, sailor, and tennis player.
Ed was beloved by Cecile, his true love and wife of 67 years, and by his children, Scott, Jonathan and Martha, and their spouses, Barbara, Darren and Amy, and by his grandchildren, Sarah, Jacob, Emma, Ben and Lily. He will be remembered by his many dear friends and by the untold number of people he encountered in his volunteer work, on his travels, and by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with this infinitely curious, gentle, and deeply caring human being.
