WEST BOYLSTON - Edward “Spike” T. Lynch, Jr., 68, of North Main St., passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012 under the loving care of his family and the staff at UMass Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, Worcester, after an illness. He was born in Clinton, the son of Edward T. and Nancy M. (Heamer) Lynch, Sr. and lived in West Boylston all of his life.
Ed graduated from West Boylston High School in 1961 and the New England School of Accounting in 1963. He worked at Colonial Press in Clinton for 11 years and Duncan Gillies Company in West Boylston for over 30 years, retiring in 2009. He was a volunteer on-call firefighter for the Town of West Boylston for over 25 years and owned and operated a wood splitting business with his father for several years.
Ed played semi-pro baseball throughout the area, and for many years played in the West Boylston Softball League. He was also a member of the West Boylston Bowling League and enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots. He enjoyed vacationing with his family in Maine and working in his garden.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 41 years, Kathryn E. (Shaw) Lynch; a son, Edward T. Lynch III of West Boylston; a brother-in-law, Dr. John D. Shaw and his wife Nancy of Holden; an aunt; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, at Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. The funeral Mass celebrating Ed’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 5, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester Street, West Boylston. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Boylston Fireman’s Association, 39 Worcester Street, West Boylston, MA 01583.
