STERLING – Edward F. Janowicz, age 79, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022.
Born in Worcester and raised in Sterling, Ed was the son of the late Walter and Emily (Grigas) Janowicz. He spent his childhood working on the family’s dairy farm with his brothers, Walter and Paul.
Ed graduated from Leominster Boys Trade with a technical degree in carpentry. He was a member of the carpenter’s union for over 40 years. During his career, he worked as a carpentry foreman on prominent real estate construction projects throughout Greater Boston.
A builder by nature, Ed was always working on a project. Ed was a great teacher and mentor and instilled a strong work ethic in his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a father figure to many of his kid’s friends.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman. He was an accomplished trap-shooter and an active member of the Eight Point Sportsmen’s Club in Sterling for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing and was known to travel with a fishing pole in his truck just in case he needed to make a quick stop at a local spot. A life-long deer hunter, each fall he and his friends looked forward their annual trip to his cabin in Northern Maine. A keen bird hunter, Ed raised Labrador Retrievers for many years.
Ed met his beloved wife, Patricia Donnelly, in Worcester in 1965. They married soon after and chose to raise their family in Sterling. Ed loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed vacationing at the homes he built in East Orleans, MA and Parkman, ME, and restoring an antique farm in Royalston, MA.
Edward is survived by and will be lovingly missed by his wife of 57 years, Patricia; a son, Michael and his wife, Jennifer of Royalston; a daughter, Laura and her husband, Robert of Austin, TX; two brothers, Walter and Paul, both of Sterling; and his five grandchildren, Michael, Mikayla, Emma, Annalise, and Elaina.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ed’s family from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 22, at St. Richard of Chichester Parish, 4 Bridge St., Sterling. The family encourages attendees to wears masks. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sterling Firefighters Association, P.O Box 1081, Sterling, MA 01564.
