PAXTON – Edward A. Cole, Ph.D., 72, of 8 Tanglewood Rd. died Saturday, March 12, 2005, in Worcester Medical Center after being stricken ill at home.
He leaves his wife of 40 years, Patricia A. (Van Schoiack) Cole; is children, Katie A. Heino of Natick, John E. Cole of Bernardston, Edward C. Cole of Berkeley, CA; and Bernadette P. Martineau of Ft. Myers, FL; a sister, Marilyn Garabedian of Colechester, CT; three brothers, Paul Cole of Woodbridge, Virginia, Kenneth Cole of Spotsylvania, VA and John Cole of Tampa, FL; four grandsons; many nephews and nieces. He was born in Boston the son of Edward V. and Helen (Bishop) Cole and lived in Michigan and Wisconsin before moving to Paxton in 1966.
Dr. Cole graduated from Coyle High School in Taunton and received his undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. He was a Professor of Biology at Anna Maria College in Paxton for 28 years, retiring in 1995. He also taught as a Brother with the Congregation of Holy Cross at several institutions for young men throughout the Midwest. After his retirement, he volunteered several for years with Literacy Volunteers of Worcester.
The funeral Mass for Dr. Cole will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private in Mooreland Cemetery, 251 Richards Avenue, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sister Village, c/o St. Richard of Chichester Church, P.O. Box 657, Sterling, MA 01564; or the Worcester County Ecumenical Council, 128 Providence Street, Worcester, MA 01604. Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling, is directing arrangements.
