HOLDEN – Edna M. (Giguere) Stewart, 89, of 10 Putnam Road, a 53-year resident of Holden, died Tuesday, August 1, 2006 in Holden Nursing Home, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She leaves her husband of 66 years, Harold A. Stewart; her son, Peter H. Stewart and his wife Linda of Blackfoot, Idaho; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Marble and her husband Douglas of Belchertown and Susan M. Flynn and her husband Thomas of Worcester; 7 grandchildren, Leslie, Andrew, Jennifer, Pamela, Leanne, Aaron and Laurie; and 6 great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Brianna Drew, Brianna Lee, Travis, Alyssa, and Gabriel. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Thomas J. and Marie A. (Dansereau) Giguere.
Mrs. Stewart was a 1934 three-year high school graduate and Horace Mann Student of Commerce High School. She earned her master’s degree in braille transcription and was a certified Braillist. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Sancliff Co. in Jefferson and years ago for Woodbury Co. in Worcester. She was past president of the Worcester County Extension, long-time volunteer at the First Congregational Church of Holden Corner Shop and a driver for the Holden Council on Aging Meals-On-Wheels program. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and with her husband was a member of the restoration committee at Mechanics Hall.
The funeral for Mrs. Stewart will be held on Saturday, August 5, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum, 162 Webster Street, Worcester. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 4, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holden Council on Aging, 1130 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520; the First Congregational Church of Holden Corner Shop, 1180 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520; or the Alzheimer’s Association, Mass.
