HOLDEN - Edna Roth Griffith, 93, of Westborough, formerly of Woodstock, CT, Holden, MA and Naples, FL, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013, of natural causes while in the loving care of her children.
Edna was born in Washington, DC on September 7, 1920. She graduated from National Cathedral High School and continued on to receive a degree from Connecticut College. As a girl, Edna was an accomplished equestrian. Her lifelong interests included volunteer work with the Girl Scouts and Parent Teacher Associations. She became a skilled craftsperson in antique furniture restoration. She was also an avid bridge player and a longtime member of the Naples Cruise Club.
Edna was married to the late Robert K. Griffith. They wed on November 1, 1942 and their commitment to each other lasted for fifty one years, until Robert’s death 20 years ago. Edna, devoted and much-loved mother and grandmother, is survived by her son, Robert Griffith and his wife, Johana of Pawtucket, RI and their children Maria, Robert and Anne; her daughter, Adele Krumpholz and her husband, Robert of Newbury and their children, Kelly Sharpe, Robert, Martin and Elizabeth Mahoney; her son, Louis and his wife, Wendy of Pomfret, CT and their children, Louis and Daniel; her daughter, Mary Anne Schofield and her husband, Louis of Melbourne, Australia and their children, Daniel, Sarah and Thomas; her daughter, Martha Ambros and her husband, Rick of Studio City, CA and their children, Caroline and Oliver; and other family and friends. Edna is preceded in death by her husband, Robert K. Griffith; her parents, Edna Harley Roth and Edward Jacob Roth; and her siblings, Edward J. Roth, Katherine Miller Brennan, Martha F. Miller and Thomas Roth.
A memorial service to celebrate Edna’s life will be held on Thursday, October 3, at 10 a.m. at the Rural Cemetery, 180 Grove St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to The Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, 3152 Little Road, Suite 146, Trinity, FL 34655. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden is assisting the family with arrangements.
