Biography
WORCESTER - Edna Belle (Berman) Burack passed away on June 19, 2018 at the age of 90 at the Jewish Healthcare Center. She went to be with her beloved husband, Philip, who predeceased her in 1991. They were married on March 16th, 1952. Edna was born on June 17th, 1928 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Benjamin Bernard and Lena Lillian (Edison) Berman.Edna loved to tell everyone that she was a nurse. She graduated from Beth Israel School of Nursing in 1949. She worked several nursing jobs before she started her lifetime career at Saint Vincent Hospital. She worked her way up from floor nurse to Assistant Clinical Nursing Director. She retired from St. Vincent’s Hospital in 1988. After retirement she worked at Fallon Clinic in Urgent Care as a triage nurse for 10 years. She ended her nursing career as the school nurse at the former Solomon Schecter School. No matter where Edna went, she was sure to meet someone she knew. We still meet nurses who worked for or with Edna at St. Vincent Hospital.Edna was an avid reader and loved to play Mah Jong with the neighborhood ladies and other friends. She belonged to Woman’s American ORT and was a Red Hat Lady. She volunteered with Rachael’s Table for many years picking up and delivering food to local shelters. Edna and Phil loved going to the theater and attending concerts, and loved to travel throughout the United States with Charlie and Shirley Burack, Hy and Annette Order, and Debbie and Adrian Horovitz. Edna traveled to Scandinavia with Harriet Willins and to England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales and the Canadian Rockies with Beverly Hurwitz.Edna leaves her daughter, Ruth-Ellen and her favorite son-in-law, Kevin Flanagan of Raleigh, North Carolina. She leaves her sister, Debbie and brother-in-law Adrian Horovitz of Cranston, Rhode Island; her sister-in-law Annette Order of Worcester; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. She leaves a son and daughter-in-law and three grandchildren of Livingston, New Jersey.Thank you to all of the angels who took care of Edna at the Eisenberg Assisted Living and on the 5th floor of the Jewish Healthcare Center.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 22nd in the Jewish Healthcare Center Chapel, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester under the direction of Richard Perlman of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. Burial will be next to her husband, Philip at the Chevra Kadisha/Holy Society Cemetery in Leicester, Massachusetts.Please omit flowers.
