OXFORD – Edmund I. Burke, 81, of 32 Thayer Pond Village, formerly of Holden and West Yarmouth, died Saturday, May 29, 2004 in the Worcester Medical Center with his family at his side.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Mary P. (Plummer) Burke; four sons, Stephen J. Burke of Jefferson, Edmund F. Burke of Worcester, Paul A. Burke of Palmer, and Daniel Burke of Tagu, Korea; two daughters, Laura Pearson of Douglas, and Sue Ellen Gauthier of Southington, Connecticut; a brother, Francis Burke of Stockbridge; a sister, Katherine McClung of Falmouth; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was born in Somerville, son of John and Hannah (Coughlin) Burke. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II.
Mr. Burke was vice president of Servo Mation Vending Corporation, retiring in 1975. He enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time at the beach.
The funeral Mass for Mr. Burke will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
