Eddie Joe Griffith

July 4, 1950 — March 21, 2013

OAKHAM – Eddie J. Griffith, 62, passed unexpectedly at home on Thursday, March 21, 2013. Born in Linton, Indiana on July 4, 1950 and raised in Jasonville, he was the son of Ben and Shirley (Easter) Griffith.

Eddie was a loving husband and will be greatly missed by his wife and soulmate, Elaine Marie (Knight), the luckiest woman in the world and the best thing that ever happened to him. Eddie will also be missed by his three loving children of whom he was very proud, James and his wife Jessica Griffith of Salem, Cale Griffith of Oakham and Katie Griffith and her partner Mark Underhill of San Diego, CA. He also leaves his mother-in-law who held a special place in his heart, Marie Knight of Brewster.

He learned to work hard at an early age, doing most anything he put his mind to. Eddie was a butcher, gardener, mechanic, an exceptional cook and fixer of all things broken. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, an engineer for the Milwaukee Railroad, then a train master for the P&W Railroad. He ran kitchens for the family nursing home and had a landscaping business known to be partial to hiring young men who were in need of a hand. He loved gardening, reading and learning about history. He was a proud life member and past post commander in the VFW and will be missed by his favorite comrade-in-arms and friend, Frank Hayden. He will live in the hearts of many and be remembered as always quick to lend a helping hand with his many talents and to be a friend to any who wanted one.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Eddie’s life on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 1 p.m., at the Oakham Congregational Church, 4 Coldbrook Rd., Oakham. A private graveside service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veteran’s Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605 or to the Barre Congregational Church Food Pantry, P.O. Box 936, Barre, MA 01005. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, Holden.
