Myron E. Benoit

HOLDEN – Myron E. Benoit, 90, of Kenwood Road, passed away peacefully under the loving care of his family and Knollwood Nursing Center in West Boylston on Tuesday, March 29, 2011. The son of Edward and Mildred L. (Shaw) Benoit, he was born in Worcester on September 10, 1920 and lived 60 years in Holden.

After attending Worcester Boy's Trade High School, Myron enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps and served as a technical sergeant from 1942 to 1945. While stationed in the South Pacific, he saw action in the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago and Middle East Mandates. After returning home, he met and married his first wife, Carol (Fahrner) Benoit and raised their four children until her untimely death in 1966. On August 10, 1968, Myron married Eleanor D. (Litchfield) Benoit and together they raised nine children in their home in Holden.

Besides his wife Eleanor, he is survived and will be greatly missed by his three sons, David M. Benoit of Leominster, James E. Benoit and his life partner Diane Hartford of Kingfield, Maine and Thomas A. Benoit and his wife Robin of Berwick, Maine; two step-sons, Robert G. Quist and his wife Mary Jane of Jefferson and Richard A. Quist of Worcester; three step-daughters, Nancy A. Hatch and her husband Christopher of Berlin, Deborah J. Bryn of Maynard and Kathleen E. Haney of Epping, New Hampshire; a brother, Roger S. Benoit of West Boylston; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a son, Paul R. Benoit, twin sisters, Gertrude and Erma Benoit, and two grandchildren.

Myron worked as a machinist at Heald Machine Company in Worcester for 28 years retiring in 1982. He was a former member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Worcester and sang in its choir for 53 years. He later joined St. John's Episcopal Church in Worcester and was presently a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Holden. He was a gifted craftsman and enjoyed all levels of woodworking including the art of caning and rushing. He will be remembered for his many acts of kindnesses, gentle nature and love for his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 3rd at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral service for Myron will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 70 Highland Street (Rte. 31), Holden. Spring burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers, Myron would have appreciated donations be made to Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472; St. Francis Episcopal Church, 70 Highland Street, Holden, MA 01520; or Summit ElderCare, 277 East Mountain St., Worcester, MA 01606.
