NATICK - Earle Burton Weiss, 92, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025. He was born on November 23, 1932, in Waltham, MA the devoted son of Murray and Ruth Weiss. He worked at Boston City Hospital as a respiratory specialist, where he met his wife, Vicki. They were married on December 1, 1963 and raised two children, Ilana and Joshua, in Natick, MA.
Earle was widely known in the medical community for his brilliance as a doctor. He had an illustrious career as a physician before having to retire due to Multiple Sclerosis and Cardiovascular issues. His professional career began in 1967 at Boston City Hospital as a Senior Research Associate and later the Founder and Director of the Respiratory Care Unit. Concurrently, he served as the Director of the Pulmonary Physiology Laboratory - eventually becoming the Associate Chief of Medicine. In 1971 he left Boston City Hospital for St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester as the Director of the Division of Respiratory Diseases and a Senior Physician. Later, in 1984, he would become the Associate Medical Director, then the Interim Medical Director from 1985 to 1987, and finally the Medical Director of the Foundation for Research in Bronchial Asthma and Related Diseases. After officially retiring, he took on a part time position as a Senior Pulmonary Scientist at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston from 1990 to 2004.
On the personal side of life, Earle was a dedicated son, husband, father and Zaidy. He was known for his deep compassion toward others, love of nature and animals, and for his amazing talents in the arts and music. A gifted musician who played the Clarinet, Piano, Guitar, and Cello, he had a very unique aptitude in this very challenging realm. Furthermore, he was a remarkable artist - engaging in poetry, painting, and photographic impressionism. He held numerous readings and shows in the Boston area featuring his works. As life threw more and more issues at him, he found a way to satisfy his curiosity and to make the best out of very difficult circumstances.
He cherished watching his three granddaughters, Kayla, Aylee and Talya, grow. His relationship with them - and his desire to teach them about so many different facets of life and the world around them -- brought him great joy and fulfillment. He is survived by his children, Ilana and Joshua; his son-in-law Greg, his daughter-in-law Adina; his three granddaughters; his sister Lois Sarab; and numerous close cousins, nieces and nephews.
