Biography
HOLDEN – Earle A. Johnson, 83, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at UMass Memorial Healthcare – Memorial Campus after an illness. He was born in Worcester, the son of Arvid A. and Lillian M. (Westerholm) Johnson and graduated from Holden High School in 1948.
He leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth E. (Green) Johnson; a sister, Pamela Rugg and her husband Earle of Ogunquit, ME; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Elaine MacNutt and Joyce Coakley.
Earle was an Army Sergeant during the Korean Conflict serving with Company A 35th Infantry Regiment 25th Division and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars. He owned and operated Earle A. Johnson Florist for 40 years retiring in 2000. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Holden Exchange Club. He was a life member of the Templeton Fish and Game Club and was a former President of the Pinewood Shores Association in Templeton. He loved to spend time with his family and was an avid gardener.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, October 30, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 346 Shrewsbury Street, Holden. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
