Earl D. Berry

HOLDEN – Earl D. Berry, 84, of Holden died peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Knollwood Nursing Home in Worcester, where he spent his last 8 years. His family is grateful to his many devoted caregivers and Hospice. Earl was the oldest son of the late Raymond D. and Ruth E. (Wriston) Berry. Earl was a 1953 graduate of Becker Junior College and later served on their Board of Trustees for 30 years. He received his BA from Clark. After college, he served with the Army and later he earned a WPI certificate. He worked for 40 years at Woodbury, Inc. in Worcester. He started his career in the mailroom and eventually wore many hats, retiring in 1998 as Treasurer. In retirement he volunteered for the Worcester chapter of SCORE, and was chairman until he succumbed to Parkinson’s. He worked side by side with his wife, Betsey, for her business in Holden, The Fabric Nook, and eventually known as Betsey’s Sewing Connection. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Holden. Earl leaves his devoted wife of 58 years, Betsey (King) Berry of Holden; two daughters, Susan B. Mogren and her husband, Scott of Holliston and Nancy A. Masia of Merrimac, MA; two brothers, Paul Berry of Southbridge and Roger Berry of Connecticut; two sisters, Pauline Dwelly of Oakham and Betty Andrews and her husband, Rev. Doug Andrew of Keene, NH; six grandchildren, Elisabetta, Kelly, Caterina, Myles, Curtis and Lee; and several nieces and nephews. Relative and friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1 at the First Congregational Church in Holden, 1180 Main Street, Holden. Receiving line and light refreshments will follow. There will be no calling hours.
