HOLDEN – Norman D. Wilkie, 80, of Holden, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2 007 in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Alice E. (Friars) Wilkie; his son, Dale N. Wilkie and his wife Nurjan of Jefferson; and two grandchildren Gianna and Ross Wilkie; a sister, Marion Tumblin of Nova Scotia; 2 nieces; a great nephew and a great niece. He was born in Worcester, son of Dawson and Effie (Anderson) Wilkie. At the age of 7, they returned to Nova Scotia where in spent 10 years before returning to serve in the U.S. Navy where he was a World War II veteran aboard the USS General Butner. In 1950 he joined the U.S. Army serving in the combat Infantry earning a bronze star during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Mass. Trade Shops School in Boston.
Mr. Wilkie retired from Worcester Pressed Aluminum, and previously worked for Wickwire Spencer in both Worcester and Palmer and Parker Metal Co. in Worcester. He was a member of the Burncoat Baptist Church where he was Church treasurer for many years, a member of the Core Board and involved with the Boy Scouts.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 29th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Mr. Wilkie will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 30th, in the funeral home followed by burial in Rural Cemetery, Worcester. Please omit flowers.
