HOLDEN - Douglas C. Eichholz, 86, died peacefully at home under the care of his loving family and friends on Friday, September 21, 2018. He was born in Worcester, the son of William and Louise (Brennan) Eichholz and has lived in Holden for over 56 years.
Douglas graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester with the class of 1951. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean war as a Chaplain Assistant. Before leaving for the service, Douglas married the love of his life, Janet Louise (Sundt) on April 25, 1953 with whom he enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Douglas was a gifted artist who used his talents professionally, at home and for his church. For many years he worked creating visual displays in the store fronts of Sears, Jordan Marsh, Filenes and Macy’s. He was well known not only in Holden but throughout Worcester County and beyond for the Christmas decorations he created and displayed on his front lawn on Shrewsbury Street. These displays not only celebrated the holidays, but also the changing seasons. Douglas was a member at Chaffin Congregational Church where he had served as a Deacon and leaves so many dear friends. He will always be remembered for the beautiful stained glass windows that he created and that will continue to adorn the church for many years to come.
Douglas was predeceased by his wife Janet L. (Sundt) Eichholz in 2017. He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Kurt D. Eichholz and his wife, Laurie of Worcester; his daughter, Donna L. Eichholz of Holden; his grandchildren, Kyah Eichholz, Nicholas Brigham and Ashley Cannata; his great grandchildren, Jaelon and Olivia Cannata; his nephews, Steven and Craig Eichholz and Rick Sundt. He was predeceased by his brother, Gordon Eichholz.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the Eichholz family from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 29th at Chaffin Congregational Church 155 Shrewsbury St., Holden. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 128 Providence St., Worcester, MA 01604. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
