HOLDEN - Dorothy R. (Savino) Spofford, age 92, a longtime resident of Holden, passed away November 20, 2019 at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberley (Spofford) Beattie, son-in-law David Beattie, and their children, Ursula, Althea, Miles, and Remy of Natick; son, Steven Spofford, and his children, Zoey, Simon and Hazel of Holden; and her sister, Helen (Savino) Pusateri of Ellicott City, MD. Winslow M. Spofford, her husband of 47 years, and grandson, Kameren Spofford, predecease her.
Dorothy was born in Watertown on June 28, 1927, the daughter of James Savino and Josephine (Strati) Savino. She was a 1944 graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester. Dorothy furthered her education and earned her Associates Degree from the Ward School of Business. She met her husband, Winslow while she was employed as a secretary at Crompton & Knowles Loom Works. Dorothy went on to work at the UMASS Medical Center, Worcester and the Big Y supermarket in Holden. She volunteered with numerous organizations over the years, including the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and UMASS Medical Center.
Dorothy had a great love for music and enjoyed attending concerts, playing piano, dancing and singing. She treasured spending time with her family. She enjoyed her friends very much, going on excursions, lunches out, coffee visits, and phone conversations.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Dorothy’s family from 9 to 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 3rd in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will be at Grove Cemetery, Holden at a later date.
