She is predeceased by her parents, Michael and Helen Moran; two sisters, Mary Kearns and Irene Bucken; and a brother, Thomas Moran.

Dorothy was born and raised in Portland, Maine by immigrant Irish parents. She graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a degree in English, and taught at Washington Academy in East Machias, Maine, and Scarborough High School in Scarborough, Maine. She married the love of her life, Edward Hall, and lived in Milford, Maine, Bay City, Michigan, and Bridgeport, Connecticut before settling in Holden in 1956. She moved to Briarwood in 2003, and lived there until her death on Friday.

Dorothy was a proud stay-at-home mom and used her many talents by volunteering to be a Den Mother, a Girl Scout Leader, and an energetic PTA member. She was a devoted and active member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson, Massachusetts where she was involved on the Parish Council, serving as a lector and a Eucharistic Minister, and teaching CCD. Dorothy was recognized in 1985 for more than ten years of service to the Worcester County Ecumenical Council, including two years as president.

Dorothy was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International in January of 1984 for her continued support of all the work that Rotary Clubs do, both locally and internationally. In 2002, Dorothy received the Barbara Cushman Award and received recognition from the Holden Council on Aging for delivering Meals on Wheels for over 25 years.

Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff from VNACare Hospice for their tender loving care, both at home and during Dorothy’s stay at Rose Monahan Hospice Home.
