HOLDEN – Dorothy M. (Latour) Dunker, 81, of 48 Montana Drive, died Tuesday, December 14, 2004, in her home after a short illness.
Her husband, Kenneth Charles Dunker died in 1958. She leaves a son, Kenneth L. Dunker of Princeton; a daughter, Kathy A. Martinelli of West Boylston; a brother, Lawrence Latour of West Springfield; a sister, Florence Hammond of Springfield; three grandchildren, Kenneth C. Dunker of Worcester, Erin G. Lewis of Paxton, and Lindsay Perron of W. Boylston; and two great-granddaughters. She was born in Lancaster, the daughter of Laurence and Catherine (Murphy) Latour, was raised in Indian Orchard, and lived in Worcester before moving to Holden 1970.
She graduated from Cathedral High School, Springfield Hospital School of Nursing and Anna Maria College, Paxton, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She was a member of St. George’s Church.
Mrs. Dunker was a Registered Nurse for 27 years retiring in 1985 as an Assistant Supervisor of Surgery at St. Vincent Hospital. She started her career as a cadet nurse out of high school and was a visiting nurse in New York City during World War II. While at St. Vincent Hospital, she was an instructor for the School of Nursing and Surgical Technician Program and was instrumental in the formation of the Bio-Lab at the hospital. Upon retirement, she worked at the Higgins Armory gift shop. She was a Licensed Real Estate Broker and enjoyed photography.
The funeral for Mrs. Dunker will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 17, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1325 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, in the funeral home. The family suggest that donations to be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
