HOLDEN - Dorothy L. LaPrade, 91, of Holden, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family. She is now reunited with her cherished husband, Roland A. LaPrade, who passed two weeks ago on March 23, 2025.
Born on March 22, 1934, in Worcester to the late Marionis and Antoniette Martunas, Dorothy was a lifelong resident of the area. She graduated from Casimir High School in Worcester in 1952 and initially worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone. Dorothy met the love of her life, Roland, while he was in the Navy, and they ultimately spent over 70 years together.
On August 18, 1956, Dorothy married the love of her life, Roland, and together they built a beautiful life, raising two sons, Robert and Ronald LaPrade, living in houses in Leicester, Spencer and Holden. Dorothy's devotion to her family was immeasurable. She was always there with a listening ear, a kind word, and a steady presence, offering love and guidance to her children and grandchildren.
Family was Dorothy's greatest joy. She shared countless special moments with Roland, their children, and their grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting sweaters and blankets, growing a large portion of the family's food in the family garden and canning, or processing it and supporting her sons educational and sports pursuits. Her nurturing spirit, warmth, and graciousness made everyone feel welcome and loved in her home. She was never one to hold back on providing opinions about anything. Dorothy's quiet strength, her deep sense of care, and her gentle soul touched all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Robert LaPrade and his wife Sandy of Tonka Bay, Minnesota,, and Ronald LaPrade and his wife Tatyana of Holden; her beloved grandchildren, Dr. Christopher LaPrade and his wife Jessica of Chanhassen, MN, Dr. Matthew LaPrade and his wife Dr. Samantha LaPrade of Wauwatosa, WI, Jeffrey LaPrade and his wife Defina Serrovalle of Minnetonka, MN, and Anna LaPrade currently in college at Boston University; and her adored great-grandchildren, Easton and Owen LaPrade, Bennett LaPrade, and Mia LaPrade. She was predeceased by her parents, Marionis and Antoinette Martunas, nine brothers and sisters, and her beloved husband, Roland.
Dorothy's love and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A combined memorial service will be held for Dorothy and Roland at Miles Funeral Home,1158 Main Street, Holden, on May 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
