Dorothy "Dotty" Kashuk

March 11, 1927 — May 6, 2020

WORCESTER - Dorothy “Dotty” Kashuk, age 93, passed away on May 6th. She was born in Worcester on March 11th, 1927 to Isaac and Anne Potash. She was a 1945 graduate of Commerce High School. Dotty always had the knack for writing, and was on the High School’s newspaper staff. She met the love of her life, Nathan, at a youth conference when she was 14 and he was 16. They had four children: Gerald Kashuk (Shelley), Jane Nahabedian (Robert Blumstein), Garry Kashuk (Marie), and Larry Kashuk (Darlene), six grandchildren: Leslie McKeough, Jill Ricardo, Joshua, Jacob, Benjamin, and Samuel Kashuk, and four great grandchildren: Dillon, Sidney, Brandon, and Genevieve. Dotty was predeceased by her husband Nathan, and her three sisters Evelyn Levine, Edith Miller, and Molly Corriveau.

She was active in the PTA at May Street Elementary School, worked at the Worcester Israel Bond office, and was active in Temple Emanuel Sisterhood. Nathan retired in 1989 and they moved to Hyannis where they lived for 25 years, and continued their favorite pastime of traveling around the world. They moved to the Willows of Worcester as initial residents of the facility 11 years ago.

Dotty and Nate were married for 67 years. With Nate’s passing six years ago, she found kindness and friendship throughout The Willows, especially from the three close friends she shared a dinner table with. Dotty loved her Saturday night poker games, and even though she had great difficulty seeing and hearing, she normally won. She was known to boast about her winnings of up to $3.50! She also loved her rummy cube games and playing words with friends. Dotty was best known for the plays that she wrote and directed. While at The Willows, she produced 17 plays, which were all in verse and comedy, starring many of the residents. The Willows community always embraced her productions, as they were written about them and for them. Dotty’s humor was infectious throughout the Willows community and will be greatly missed.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family will hold a private graveside service. Donations can be made to Temple Emanuel Sinai, Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
