SHREWSBURY, MA/BURNT HILLS, NY – Dorothy (Pillsbury) Brewster, 95, passed away peacefully at UMass Memorial Healthcare Center – Lake Avenue on Friday, March 3, 2017. Born in Limington, Maine, Dot was a daughter of the late James F. and Bessie J. (Dutton) Pillsbury.She is affectionately remembered and missed by her sons, Frank E. Brewster, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Barre and Richard A. Brewster and his wife, Dyanne of West Boylston; her sister, Constance Pillsbury of Portland, Maine; her three grandchildren, Mark LeSuer, Michael Brewster and Emily Brewster; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Frank E. Brewster, Sr., who passed in 2011; her two brothers, Donald D. Pillsbury and J. Carlton Pillsbury; and her sister, Bettina Spiller.Dorothy was no stranger to hard work, having been raised on her family’s farm in Limington, Maine. She put herself through college earning her RN at Central Maine Hospital in Lewiston Maine and a BS in nursing from the University of Maine in Orono. At the University of Maine she met her future husband, Frank Brewster. After Frank’s return home from serving his country during World War II, they married on June 29, 1946 in his hometown of South Portland, Maine. They moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts where they lived for thirteen years then moving to Burnt Hills until Frank’s passing in 2011. Her last years were spent at Shrewsbury Crossings in Shrewsbury Ma.Dot was a compassionate person who was loved by all that knew her. She would quickly take interest and connect with strangers. Dot put her experience as a nurturing caregiver to work by devoting her life to raising her two sons. She was a generous, loving, supportive and unselfish women, putting others first. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends especially at the family farm and camp in Maine.In Pittsfield she worked as a registered nurse while taking care of her growing family. In Burnt Hills, Dot's life was centered on family, volunteering, and supporting various church, school, Red Cross and political organizations. She was a long time member of Glenville Community Church in East Glenville NY. A graveside service honoring Dot’s life will be held privately at Limington Village Cemetery, Limington, Maine at the convenience of the family.
