Doris Estelle (Washburn) Johnston

WORCESTER – Doris E. (Washburn) Johnston, 86, longtime Worcester resident, passed away peacefully at The Meadows of Leicester on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.  Born and raised in Worcester, Doris was a daughter of the late Frank H. and Dora (Veitch) Washburn.      Doris graduated from Commerce High School.  She soon began her computer programming career and worked for several area companies, including WPI where she worked for 28 years before her retirement.  She was a member of The First Congregational Church in Worcester and the Red Hat Society, where she enjoyed socializing with friends.  Doris’ family fondly recalls her delight in creating the annual family calendar. She will be affectionately remembered and missed by her two sons, Bruce D. Johnston and his wife, Suzanne of Worcester and Jay R. Johnston and his wife, Michelle of Hubbardston; her grandchildren, Breanna, Alison, Jennifer, Shannon and Melissa; and her great-grandchildren, Abigail, Logan, Cole, Connor, Cody, Elijah and Alice.  In addition to her parents, Doris is predeceased by her husband, Everett J. Johnston who passed away in 1995; her son, Alan P. Johnston; her brother, Frank H. Washburn III; her sister, Elaine Bracher; and two grandchildren, Jessica Johnston and Jeffrey Johnston. Dolly, as she was called by family and friends, will always be remembered as a most loving and compassionate soul by all who knew her.  She was always quick to lend a helping hand and advise out of love.
