STERLING – Doris M. (McGann) Schumacher Oser, 87, of Sterling, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 under the loving care of her family and the staff at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston. Born in Houlton and raised in Portland, Maine, Doris was the daughter of James L. and Alveretta (Clark) McGann, and lived over 50 years in the Sterling area.
Her husband, William S. Oser, died in 1999. She leaves her five daughters, Bonnie J. Adams of Leominster, Ronda Hakala of St. Petersburg, Florida, Linda Bailey and her husband, Lee of Spencer, Debra Schumacher of Worcester, and Dorothy Przyborowski and her husband, Zbigniew of Worcester; a sister, Mildred Dearborn of Buxton, Maine; a brother, Ronald McGann of Norridgewock, Maine; her step-children, Kris Oser and her husband, Alan Koller of NY, William Oser and his wife, Christine of Holden, John Oser and his wife, Sandy of Townsend, Sharon Oser and her husband, Michael Cohen of NY, 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by a daughter, Karen Stuart and two sisters, Beatrice Junco and Phyllis Staples.
Doris graduated from South Lancaster Academy and was an active member of the Sterling Seventh-day Adventist Church where she served as a secretary and greeter. She worked many years at the former Green Meadow Lodge in Sterling and co-owned, with her husband Bill, Morningdale’s Restaurant in Boylston for several years. She also worked as a certified nurse’s aide at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She loved the outdoors and would spend many hours watching the birds at their feeders and her beautiful flower gardens which she loved so much.
A memorial service honoring Doris’ life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 1, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Immediately following the service, friends and relatives are invited to visit with Doris’ family from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
