STERLING - Doris I. (Thomas) Avery, 84, of 113 Princeton Road, died Friday, June 4, 2004, in the Christopher House, Worcester.
Doris was pre-deceased by her husband Amasa W. Avery and her son Thomas W. Avery. She leaves two sisters, Evelyn M. Thomas with whom she lived for 20 years, and Ruth A. Calcia of Princeton; a brother-in-law, Eustace Avery and his wife Shirley of Gilbertville; three granddaughters, Amy Flanagan of Worcester, Lisa Avery of Connecticut, and Melissa Avery-LeBlanc of Sterling; six great-grandchildren; two nephews and three nieces.
Doris was born in Sterling, daughter of Michael and Nellie (Brown) Thomas, and lived there all of her life. She graduated form Commerce High School in Worcester.
Doris and her husband owned and operated the former Greenmeadow Lodge and then with her son she owned and operated the Country Fare Restaurant, both in Sterling. Doris was an avid cook and baker and was especially well known for her pies. She was a member of the First Church in Sterling.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 7, in the funeral home.
