WORCESTER – Doris Isobel (Dawe) Guminski, 86, has been thankfully released to the Lord and died peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Golden Living Center-The Hermitage, Worcester, after being so lovingly cared for close to five years.
Doris was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Frank G. Dawe of Newfoundland and Florence M. (Earle) Dawe of Worcester, MA. The family moved to Corner Brook, Newfoundland shortly after Doris was born where she went to school, did daily farm chores and helped out in the family grocery store. Doris was the oldest of seven children and she moved back to Worcester before the age of twenty. Doris worked in the mail room at the former Worcester Pressed Steel Company where she met and married the love of her life, Matthew D. Guminski. She was a former member of Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Worcester, where she sang in the choir and was also a former member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Worcester. Doris was a stay-at-home Mom for her two daughters, Lynne and Lois. She loved to cook for her family and sew and was an excellent seamstress. Doris was a country girl at heart and true to her Newfoundland heritage. She was always ready to strike up a conversation, even with strangers. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Doris’ beloved husband of 64 years, Matthew D. Guminski, predeceased her just a few months ago on October 30, 2014. She is also predeceased by one brother, Frank Dawe and one sister, Katherine Legge, both of Canada. She is survived by her two daughters, Lynne D. Troy and her husband, Walter of Worcester and Lois C. Bennett and her husband, Gregg of Bellevue, Washington; her brother, Harold Dawe of Canada; her three sisters, Anne Hagglund and Caroline Leckie, both of Canada, and Marie Dawe of Colorado; her two grandchildren, Scott and Kathryn Bennett; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of The Golden Living Center, as well as those of ASERA CARE Hospice, who so lovingly cared for Doris for almost five years and have become like an extended family.
