WORCESTER - Doree J. Porter, daughter of the late Rose and Ben Solomon, passed away peacefully on July 30.
A teacher in the Boylston and Worcester Public Schools (WPS) for more than 30 years, she worked as an ELL teacher, tutor, curriculum specialist, reading teacher and After School Programs teacher. Doree received the Thomas Jefferson Award upon retirement. She loved her WPS family.
For many years Doree was an avid knitter and quilter. She was also extremely proud to have traveled to 41 of the United States as well as 33 countries throughout the world. Doree loved Bruce Springsteen, the beach and NYC. In true New Yorker form, she did it her way.
She leaves behind her son Evan (and wife Lisa) and two beloved grandchildren Ben and Anna. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Judy Fow. She is predeceased by her husband Melvin (2020) and son Andrew (2018).
The family welcomes visitors Wednesday, August 3 from 4pm-7pm at Doree's home: 4005 Brompton Circle, Worcester. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
