HOLDEN – R. Don Christenson, 80, of 53 Duxbury Drive, died Wednesday, August 1, 2007 in Sterling Healthcare Center, after an illness. During his illness, he was cared for by his loving wife and his daughters.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Barbara Ann (Lavoie) Christenson; two sons, Gary A. Christenson and his wife Bonnie of Holden and Donald R. Christenson and his wife Cathy of Navarre, Florida; two daughters, Gail A. Coffey and her husband Keith of Holden and Kathy A. Vaugh and her husband Jerry of Jefferson; 13 grandchildren, Giles, Christina, David, Melissa, Jennifer, Kyle, Kelly, Katie, Matthew, Keysha (predeceased ’99), Lily, Iris and Callie; and his plump kitty, Marcelus. He was born in Worcester, son of Rudolph and Ellen (Romlin) Christenson, and lived in Worcester before moving to Holden in 1955. He was a graduate of Major Edwards High School in West Boylston.
Don was a 25-year U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Korea and the Vietnam War, retiring as a Master Chief. His love of computers started in the Navy and continued throughout his life. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson. In life, he was most proud of his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 3rd, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Don will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 4th, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fisher House Foundation, Inc. (providing housing for families of hospitalized military personnel), 1401 Rockville Pike, Suite 600, Rockville, MD 20852.
