Donald A. Zambesi

June 28, 1945 — February 16, 2015

HUBBARDSTON – Donald A. Zambesi, 69, formerly of Hudson, died peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, following a period of declining health. He was born in Framingham, son of the late Adolph and Alberta (Whiting) Zambesi.

Don was raised in Framingham and graduated from Framingham South High School, Class of 1964. Following graduation, Don enlisted in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served as an aerial photographer while stationed both stateside and in Vietnam. After being discharged, Don began his journey toward becoming a licensed electrician. He soon became a licensed master electrician and began working for himself, which he did for more than 35 years.

While in his early twenties, Don met the former Carol McKellick during a blind date. That date turned into a marriage that has lasted 46 years and includes two wonderful children, their spouses and five adoring grandchildren. Together, Don and Carol loved to spend summer days on the shores of Old Orchard Beach as well as cruising to tropical places. To Don, family was everything and always enjoyed the time they spent together. He was also a loyal and dedicated friend. He was the guy friends would turn to for help with a project. Don also enjoyed the company of his fellow veterans, and was a life member and past commander of VFW Post 1027 in Hudson. He was a former member of the Am Vets and the American Legion. Don will truly be truly missed but forever loved by family and friends, but especially his children, grandchildren and Carol, who describes Don as her rock.

Besides his beloved wife, Carol, Don leaves his son, Donald A. Zambesi, Jr. and his wife, Aletheia of Milton, FL; his daughter, Traci L. Chandler and her husband, Mark of Webster; his two brothers, John Zambesi of Worcester, and Steven Zambesi and his wife, Ann of Saint Mary’s, GA; his four sisters, Joanne O’Brien of Rockland, Marie Young of Florida, Marcia Fogarty and Sandra Zambesi, both of Framingham; his five grandchildren, Derrick, Alexandra, and Ezekiel Zambesi and Peyton and Chase Chandler; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in celebration of Don’s life on Saturday, February 21, at 3 p.m. at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VFW Post 1027, 3 Palmieri Drive, Hudson, MA 01749.
