Donald E. Woodcock

October 19, 1926 — November 13, 2014

AUBURN/STERLING – Donald E. Woodcock, 88, of Auburn, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, November 13, 2014. Born and raised in Sterling, Don was the son of Leon A. and Luella B. (Arnold) Woodcock, and lived 57 years in Auburn.



Don attended Leominster High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He honorably served his country during World War II from 1944 to 1946. After marrying Marion E. Mason from Holden in 1951, together they settled in Auburn where they raised their three children.



He worked at Norton Company in Worcester retiring in 1989. Don was a member of the First Congregational Church of Auburn where he served as a Deacon. He was a chaplain and member of the color guard with the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post 189 in Sterling. After his retirement, Don and his wife traveled cross-country in their motor home including trips to Alaska and Mexico.



Don enjoyed woodworking, painting and working in his garden. First and foremost, he was a family man. He looked forward to spending time with his grand and great grandchildren and will be remembered for his unassuming and selfless nature.



He leaves his wife Marion E. (Mason) Woodcock; his three children, Dorothy L. Woodcock of North Grafton, Jeanette M. Temple of Holden, and Charles M. Woodcock and his wife, Karen of Palmer; two brothers, Leon “Woody” A. Woodcock, Jr. of Sterling and R. James Woodcock of Hillsboro, North Carolina; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Don is predeceased by a sister, Madge Courtney and a son-in-law, Donald R. Temple.



Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A funeral service honoring Don’s life will be held at 11 am. on Monday, November 17, at the First Congregational Church, 128 Central Street, Auburn. Interment will be held privately Oak Hill Cemetery in Sterling. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at the First Congregational Church, 128 Central Street, Auburn, MA 01501; or Veteran’s Inc., 69 Grove St. Worcester MA 01605.
